Our Story

Our chapter grew from one man’s quiet persistence and a small group of brothers who met after Sunday service in a children’s hall.

This account is drawn from the recollections of Bro. Supo Ogunyemi, the chapter's founding Coordinator.

The seed (1981 to 1983)

In 1981, two foundation members of Fountain of Hope Society at St Anne's Church, Molete, Ibadan invited sons of Christ Church, Porogun, Ijebu-Ode to establish a chapter in their home church. That call led to the inauguration of FOH 3 in October 1981, with Bro. Supo Ogunyemi as its General Secretary. The new members were charged to carry the movement into their own local churches.

In late 1983, Bro. Ogunyemi joined the newly founded Church of the Ascension on Omodara Street, Opebi. Around the same time, he joined other chapter presidents and secretaries in Ijebu-Ode to establish Fountain of Hope International as the umbrella body for all chapters.

The seed (1981 to 1983)

The Church of the Ascension was then a small congregation worshipping in a tent, with ministers coming each Sunday from All Saints' Church, Yaba. Bro. Ogunyemi waited for the congregation to grow, then began speaking to the men one by one about Fountain of Hope.
A group of 12 to 15 brothers soon began meeting every Sunday after service in the children's hall. Among them were T.L. Oredugba, Akin Osiyemi, Andy Aroloye, Elijah Adeosun, S.A. Fafowora, Segun Demuren, Segun Ogunlana and Biodun Aroloye.

Finding A President

The group prayed for a leader who could unite its members, young and old. When Chief J. Bode Amao visited the church one Sunday, Bro. Ogunyemi was convinced he was the man. He approached Chief Amao after a later service and asked him directly to lead the new Society. After a few moments of thought, Chief Amao accepted.

The first meetings (May 1988)

On Sunday 15 May 1988, the brothers met at Chief Amao's home in Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, and appointed the first interim executive. A week later, on 22 May 1988, the executive was confirmed at the home of Bro. T.L. Oredugba in Opebi. At that meeting the Society set up a constitution drafting committee under Bro. Segun Demuren and approved its anthem, "For the Lord Leads Us Forever", composed by Bro. Biodun Gbago.
The brothers also made a decision that would define the chapter: the congregation deserved a befitting house of worship, and Fountain of Hope would help to build it.

Inauguration (23 October 1988)

The chapter was inaugurated on 23 October 1988 with 29 foundation members. The occasion came one week after the burial of Mrs F. Ireyemi Adefope, wife of our Patron. Bishop Abiodun Adetiloye, who preached that day, urged the brothers to accept the will of God and press on. He then gave the chapter its lasting name: the Concorde Chapter.
To mark the day, the Society donated the first marble lectern to the tent church.

Building The Church

Work on a permanent church auditorium began immediately. Some voices in the congregation felt the priority should be spiritual growth instead. The first building fundraiser settled the matter: between 80% and 90% of the total raised came from Fountain of Hope members. Our Patron, Otunba M.O. Adefope, chaired the building committee, and many of our brothers served on it.

Testing and Renewal (to 2004)

Like every organisation, the Society faced difficult seasons. When our Charter President, Bro. J. Bode Amao, retired to Ibadan, the chapter lost a leader whose personal generosity had long carried much of its expenses. His successors, Bro. S.A. Fafowora and Bro. Akin Osiyemi, worked hard to keep the Society steady through lean years.
In 2004, under the presidency of Bro. Supo Ogunyemi, the chapter put its finances on a firm footing. Generous gifts from Bro. Festus Fadeyi, Bro. Kayode Odumosu and Bro. Adesola Egunjobi restored the treasury, and Bro. Ade Bolodeoku took charge of it. The Society adopted a principle it still follows: each member contributes according to how God has endowed him.

Standing tall (2004 to today)

Since 2004, FOH19NG has returned to the forefront of the Fountain of Hope family and stands shoulder to shoulder with other chapters. We became the first chapter to acquire a coaster bus for the Society's use nationwide. Our members have served at national and zonal level, and our charitable giving to churches and organisations continues.
We thank God, who has been with us through all these years. To God be the glory.

Our Mission, Vision and Values

Our mission: To unite men of the Church of the Ascension in faith and fellowship, to support the growth of the Church with our time, skills and resources, and to care for one another and for those in need.

Our vision: A brotherhood whose faith is visible in what it builds, whom it helps and how it lives, within the Church, the Fountain of Hope family and the wider community.

Our values:
• Faith. Everything we do begins and ends with God. Our anthem says it plainly: the Lord leads us forever.
• Service to the Church. We were founded with a resolve to build a befitting house of worship, and we continue to meet our dues and contributions to the Church.
• Brotherhood. We look after our members' progress and help one another in times of need.
• Generosity. Each member gives according to how God has endowed him. No gift is too small and none is taken for granted.
• Integrity and accountability. We live within our means, keep a well-guarded treasury and commit the Society only to what its members have approved.
• Charity. We give to other churches and organisations beyond our own walls.
• Unity. We are one chapter in a larger family, loyal to Fountain of Hope International and to the Anglican Communion.
